What you get
- A pre-backing GOAL routine the driver runs before reversing
- Spotter positioning and hand-signal protocol
- Driver-and-spotter communication rules
- Reminders for blind-side backing and confined areas
- An ungated, printable format for driver training and the cab
How to use it
- 1
Avoid backing where possible — plan to pull through or position the vehicle to drive out forward.
- 2
Before reversing, Get Out And Look: walk the full path, check height and side clearances, and note fixed hazards.
- 3
Use a spotter when one is available; agree on signals and a single instruction — stop on losing sight of the spotter.
- 4
Back slowly, idle speed, with the window down to hear; favor the driver's side over the blind side.
- 5
Re-check if anything changes — people, vehicles, or obstacles can enter the path while you set up.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the questions buyers usually ask once the category, software, or rollout details start getting more specific.
GOAL stands for 'Get Out And Look.' Before backing, the driver leaves the cab and physically walks the path to check clearances and hazards that mirrors and cameras can miss. It's one of the simplest, most effective ways to prevent backing crashes.
Backing involves limited visibility, blind spots, and often a crowded yard or dock. A large share of fleet collisions happen at low speed while reversing — but most are preventable with planning, GOAL, and a spotter.
Position the spotter on the driver's side where the driver can see them in the mirror, agree on hand signals beforehand, keep the spotter out of the path of travel, and have the driver stop the instant the spotter disappears from view.
Cameras and sensors help, but they have blind spots and can miss low or fast-moving hazards. Use them as an aid, not a replacement for getting out, looking, and backing slowly.
