How to use it

File a challenge as soon as an inaccurate inspection or crash record is identified — the record affects your CSA scores from the date it posts, so a delayed challenge means longer exposure to an inaccurate score.

State the specific basis for the challenge clearly: wrong carrier, incorrect violation code, a crash that shouldn't be preventable-rated — a vague dispute is harder for the reviewing agency to act on.

Attach the strongest evidence available — the actual inspection report, photos, maintenance records, anything that directly supports the specific claim being made.

Track the challenge through each status until it's resolved; DataQs challenges can take time, and an open challenge that's never followed up on doesn't correct anything.

Once resolved, note whether the correction actually changed the underlying score, and cross-reference it in the CSA BASIC Score Tracker so the connection between the challenge and the score movement is documented.

Broadly, inaccurate or incorrectly attributed inspection reports, violations, and crash records that appear on your carrier profile — a violation coded to the wrong carrier or vehicle, a crash that meets the accountability criteria for removal, a factual error in the report. Not every disagreement with an inspector's judgment qualifies; the challenge needs a specific, evidenced basis.
It varies by the reviewing agency and the complexity of the challenge, and there's no fixed universal timeline worth quoting — some resolve in weeks, others take considerably longer. Track the challenge status here so a slow-moving one doesn't get forgotten while you wait, and follow up if it stalls without a status update.
A successful challenge corrects or removes the underlying record, which then feeds into the next scoring cycle — it doesn't retroactively rewrite a percentile that's already been published for a past month. Track when the correction actually shows up in your BASIC scores, since there's typically a lag between resolution and the score reflecting it.
That depends on how close the relevant BASIC category is to its intervention threshold and how strong the evidence is — a minor violation on a category well under threshold may not be worth the effort, while the same violation on a category near threshold is worth pursuing if you have genuine grounds.
