How to use it

Fill the header with the date, driver, carrier, and unit numbers before the shift.

Most drivers required to keep records of duty status must use an ELD, but exceptions exist (e.g., certain short-haul operations, pre-2000 engines, limited driving-day counts). Paper logs are also allowed as a temporary backup when an ELD malfunctions. Verify your status against 49 CFR 395.
FMCSA allows reconstructed/paper logs for a limited period after a malfunction while the device is repaired or replaced, and the driver must notify the carrier. Confirm the exact timeframe and notice requirements in the current rule.
